Each eye a path consists of 10 tracks written, arranged and recorded between 1995 & 1999 by Mick Karn.
Two of the pieces feature Micks lead vocals and almost all the instruments are played by him. The only other Musicians involved are Mieko Shimizu (aka Apache 61) who played organ on, and mixed, serves you rice, and Steve Jansen who mixed all of the other tracks, played drums on one and programmed various percussion and samples on several others. Both contributed to some arrangements.
Mick : The 95 - 99 time period was full of upheaval for me, which is one of the reasons this album took so long to complete. Other setbacks include my computer being stolen along with all music stored inside, and tapes destroyed by machines.
of optimism and expecting to leave hardly any pause in its release after my last album The Tooth Mother. I couldnt have been more wrong, and as the optimism faded, so too the music began to take on a somewhat darker, more inward looking path. Every step forward seemed to be riddled with reasons for not continuing, but gradually the music evolved with each attempt. The tracks that have survived are probably the most personally revealing Ive ever recorded as theyre entirely written about particular people Ive known in my life. Some were just passing through on their own journeys, while others I regrettably let slip away and so were lost. Its also full of the realisation that those very people will probably never be aware of any music written for them. Ive dedicated this cd to my cat Kashmir who died in May 2000. Shed been my constant companion during all of my solo recordings to date, and so also knew the experiences this album refers to. |
