It isn’t often that Jansen, Barbieri and Karn perform live. In fact, 1997 saw the first event of it’s kind in their

long history of collaborations in other guises - (most notably as members of the group Japan), this was as a

three piece performing a retrospective selection of material spanning a decade of albums.Initiating with a

one-off show in London’s Astoria II and followed by a

string of dates in Japan, these concerts were seen as a

rare opportunity to sample Jansen, Barbieri and Karn

material performed live. Four years hence and JBK are

now ready to release a live album taken from the 1997

tour on their own independent Medium Label titled

‘Playing In A Room With People’. The band line up also

includes Steven Wilson on guitar and Theo Travis on

saxophones and flute, (both accomplished artists in their

own right). There is also a special guest appearance from

Egyptian diva Natacha Atlas.Apart from featuring tracks

from previous Karn, Jansen/Barbieri and Rain Tree Crow

releases, the album also contains two previously

unreleased tracks; a live ‘opener’ solo performance by

Barbieri and a studio ‘coda’ recording written and

performed by Jansen (who also mixed the album).
